Normally Invisible was born in 1992 from the convergence of Nico, Olaf, and Thiemo, students at The Hague’s esteemed Institute for Sonology. Fueled by a shared passion for electronic dance music, they transformed their academic experiments into electrifying studio creations. Their 1994 debut album, “Always Ultra With Wings,” showcased a spectrum from pure ambient to downtempo trance, with the “Psychotronics” vinyl pushing them into more club-ready territory.
When Thiemo left, Marcus Graf’s arrival brought a seismic shift, injectng raw, breakbeat rhythms and distorted guitar riffs into their DNA. This led to the truly unexpected: sharing the stage with the Netherlands Blazers Ensemble, an over 25-man orchestra, in Amsterdam’s historic Concertgebouw – a collision of high art and cutting-edge electronica. DJ Eddy de Clerq’s ‘Testlab’ nights further amplified their reach, where the addition of vocalist Desaya took their sound to new heights. Although the band did not get noticed at ‘Noorderslag’, their music’s uncompromising nature ultimately led them to score the 21st century feeling feature film “Ik Ook Van Jou,” to great critical acclaim. They also delved into audio design for MTV, crafting soundscapes for Mini commercials. From experimental electronica to guitar-driven breakbeats, Normally Invisible constantly defies expectations, etching their unique mark on the musical landscape.
